Yale is proud to be sponsoring National Home Security month for its eighth year. The campaign, which raises awareness of home security and the latest products available to help combat break-ins, will run throughout October.
Paul Atkinson, Sales and Commercial Director for Yale Door and Window Solutions, discusses this year’s campaign theme as well as how you can make the most of the initiative to maximise sales during this peak period.
Figures show that burglaries spike by as much as 25% in the autumn and winter months1 and will rise even further this week, as stats show that bonfire night sees a 42% increase in burglaries over an ordinary autumn night1.
In response, this year NHSM is themed ‘You call it home, we keep it secure’, and will highlight a different element of home security each week of the campaign. It will offer advice, break down technical jargon, and debunk myths for homeowners across the UK, all helping to drive demand for security products and installation services nationwide.
Week one of the campaign, dubbed ‘You call it home, we keep it locked’, in particular presents a prime opportunity for door fabricators and installers, as it takes a deep dive into door locks. The focus will be on how products, including composite doors and smart locking mechanisms, can make it more difficult for intruders to enter a property, while security standards, such as the Kitemark, will also be explored.
This provides an ideal opportunity to up-sell British Standard security locking solutions to customers, such as the Yale Platinum 3 Star cylinder, Platinum 2 Star cylinder pull, and the Postmaster Professional TS008 letterplate as part of PAS24.
Week four’s ‘You call it home, we keep it smart’, is all about smart technology. Alarms, security lights and cameras will all come under the spotlight, as will the latest security gadgets, from smart door locks to integrated virtual assistants. The campaign will also offer advice on how an efficient security ecosystem can be put together.
More and more homeowners are demanding and investing in smart security devices that can be controlled remotely via a smartphone. However, they often want a trade professional to install devices for them. This week will provide information to customers on the benefits of smart security and gives installers a great opportunity to capitalise on a growing marketplace.
Other areas being highlighted by NHSM this October include a focus on CCTV, alarm systems, and dark nights as the clocks go back.
For those fabricators, distributors and installers that sign up to support NHSM, you will be provided with a range of promotional collateral and marketing materials that can be distributed to customers and used online and in-store to help raise awareness and boost security sales.
Yale is also offering a £1,000 guarantee in the unlikely event that a forced break in is due to the Platinum 3 Star cylinder being snapped under attack to gain entry to the property. This guarantee provides ultimate peace of mind to homeowners and in turn, fabricators, distributors, and installers.
The Yale Platinum 3 Star cylinder provides maximum security against known attack methods; cylinders can be suited and re-pinned at Yale’s BSI audited plant in the Midlands thus retaining the Kitemark accreditation across the suite. The 3 Star cylinder has been independently tested by BSI to be awarded the British Kitemarked TS007:2014 3 Star accreditation – a standard developed in response to concerns around cylinder attacks.
In addition, the 3 Star cylinder is SS312 Sold Secured accredited. It has also been tested to the British Standard BS EN1303:2005 and is Secured by Design approved – meaning it could save homeowners money when it comes to renewing their insurance premiums.
