Yale launches First-of-its-kind MOTUS Production Line for Multipoint Locks

MOTUS – Moving Manufacturing Forward
Derived from the Latin word meaning "to move", MOTUS reflects ASSA ABLOY's vision for the future of multipoint lock manufacturing and maintaining lock production in the UK.
Developed over a two-year period in partnership with Birmingham-based automation specialists ADI Automation, the 29-metre first production line of its kind draws inspiration from advanced automotive manufacturing principles. By reducing unnecessary handling and streamlining production processes, MOTUS creates a more efficient, connected manufacturing environment capable of responding more effectively to customer demand.
The new line combines bespoke automation with real-time performance monitoring, giving operators and engineers greater visibility of production performance. This data-led approach supports faster decision-making, continuous improvement and consistent product quality.
Engineering for the Future Meets People-Powered Manufacturing
Designed as a scalable platform, MOTUS will also support future innovation. Its flexible architecture is intended to enable the production of multiple lock variants through software-driven changeovers, helping the line adapt to changing customer requirements and market demands.
While automation plays a key role, people remain central to the operation. MOTUS has been designed to reduce repetitive tasks, improve ergonomics and create broader development opportunities for employees through station rotation and skills enhancement.
Built on the MOTUS Platform
Among the products manufactured on the new line will be the recently launched Yale Lockmaster 24 Multipoint lock. Available in hook and deadbolt variants, Lockmaster 24 combines proven mechanical performance with smart technology capabilities, including compatibility with Yale SensCheck L2 for real-time door status monitoring. The lock also supports door sets designed to meet the latest PAS 24:2022+A1:2024 security requirements.
In addition to Lockmaster 24, the MOTUS flowline will produce the Yale Lockmaster 21, Lockmaster AutoEngage, Lockmaster 28mm/25mm Bifold Lock Range and Yale YS170 Multipoint Locking Systems, delivering increased manufacturing flexibility and responsiveness across the portfolio.

The investment further strengthens ASSA ABLOY's long-standing commitment to UK manufacturing. More than 35,000 Yale multipoint door locks are produced every week at the company's Willenhall facility, a town with a proud lock-making heritage.
